RUSSIAN SYSTEMA SPETSNAZ DVD #16: FRAGMENTS
The systema training regimen seems very valid with some interesting Qi Gong, some of which is definitely a borrowing from some Oriental styles, other probably a synthesis developed in the Soviet Union, or modern Russia. Some of it was new to me personally, such as "rolling like a log" while neutralizing the attack at the same time. I think its an interesting ground technique. Some of it I suppose are Universal principles as I have encountered them elsewhere. The instructor seems to be a savvy intelligent individual who urges his trainees to completely relax, and as you know, that idea shouldn't be underestimated for those of us who train.
All in all, this is a schematic combat approach, directed at teaching one quickly, so they could engage. That is a good thing if you don't have the time or the patience to spend on studying an exotic eastern method which you may not even understand properly. So....try it:)

If you can get all 3 Systema Spetsnaz seminar DVDs - get them!!! If not, choose this one! Six hours of hand to hand combat training were combined in 2 hours, so you will have to practice and watch it again and again. And it worth it!! Remember, this is 2 hours DVD!
The First part is about breathing, relaxation and getting into a combat trance state. The second part has a lot of different combat techniques, starting from basic movement to takedown techniques, joint locks, grabs, working with a knife, etc.
I've watched this Spetsnaz DVD 5 times already and every time I learn something new. A lot, a lot of important self-defense elements here!

The Combat Flow DVD is about how to use different energy techniques in self-defense, or how Vadim defines it: 25% of physical strength and 75% of inner energy. This 2 hours DVD has instructions how to use your energy in the fighting, with exercises like the figure 8 motion. It really helped me to get more flexibility and to use energy leverage on my enemies. Not only it teaches how to deal with fist fighting, but also disarming enemies from different weapons, for example, a knife. This Systema Spetsnaz DVD is a must have video, and an important part of the seminar set!

This Systema Spetsnaz DVD is 2 hours long. The first part is a self-development training and the second part is mostly about knife fighting. If you are not a fan of working with energy and breathing exercises, just fast forward. The second part is really impressive!!! Exactly, as DVD description says - based on knife techniques you can practice all extremely important elements of hand to hand combat - fighting steps and movements, body rotation, strikes, grabs, and counter-attacks. Amazing how everything comes together and using a knife is a great way of practicing it!! I've always thought that knife fighting is something that you learn after mastering strikes, punches, etc. Actually, I was able to practice all the fundamental elements from the knife combat. This is a new way to look at self-defense techniques. Incredible job Mr. Vadim Starov!! Simple and beyond my expectations. Remarkable training approach! SYSTEMA SPETSNAZ IS THE BEST!!!
